23 July, 2024

The upcoming reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer has found its cast.

According to Deadline, Riverdale's Camila Mendes and Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline are in talks to lead the previously-announced Sony film, along with Sarah Pidgeon (The Wilds), Tyriq Withers (Atlanta) and Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid).

Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr are also in talks to reprise their roles as Julie James and Ray Bronson from the original 1997 horror.

The reboot will also mark a reunion between Mendes and her Do Revenge director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who is set to direct the project from a screenplay she co-wrote with Sam Lansky, after an initial script from Leah McKendrick.

The original I Know What You Did Last Summer stars Hewitt, Prince Jr, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe as four young friends who find themselves being stalked by a hook-wielding maniac, exactly one year after they killed a man and dumped his body into the sea.

Hewitt and Prinze Jr returned for its 1998 sequel, while a third movie in 2006 featured an entirely new cast.

Details of the new movie are currently being kept under wraps, but it's set for a July 18, 2025 release date.

I Know What You Did Last Summer isn't the only classic '90s horror film getting the reboot treatment, as a remake of The Blair Witch Project was announced earlier this year.

Blumhouse and Lionsgate will remake the 1999 horror film, which was credited for reviving the found footage genre and inspiring films such as Paranormal Activity and Cloverfield.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson described the remake as a "new vision for Blair Witch that will reintroduce this horror classic for a new generation."
